Southeast is home to many wonderful neighborhoods, walkable streets, local shops, and exquisite restaurants. This area of Portland has so many hot-spot neighborhoods it is hard to name them all.
Southeast Portland is a very large area of the city. Spanning from the Willamette river east all the way to Gresham, and from E burnside south all the way to Milwaukie. As long as you like tree lines streets, there is a neighborhood here that you will love.
Close- in SE
We have Ladd’s Addition which is one of the oldest planned communities in the western united states. Richmond, which takes on the task of lumping the recently developed Division street and the hip Hawthorne districts together. Mt Tabor, which boasts stunning homes and fantastic views. Montavilla, which is a fun walkable neighborhood on the north side of Mt. Tabor. FOPO, the lovably named Foster-Powell neighborhood, which is undergoing some rapid transformations with new bars and restaurants being added to the recently narrowed street. Woodstock, an artsy areas with plenty of can’t miss restaurants and shops. And of course Sellwood, a neighborhood that used to be it’s own town with some of the best schools in Portland.
Outer SE
In the outer southeast we have Powellhurst which surrounds the beautiful Powell Butte Nature Park. Pleasant Valley in which you can find homes with large lots and huge trees. Centennial and Lents are both also in outer southeast Portland and have been undergoing quick changes as more and more people are moving out of the city center. While this area of Portland isn’t as walkable, that lower density means you have much more space, more peace, and lower prices.
From the Rapidly changing industrial district along the river, to the Posh Eastmoreland in the south, and from the Hippies of Hawthorne to the Bars on Belmont. There is so much to see here that you will be happy to make it your home!
