Sweedeedee

March 30, 2023 by Jessica Berger and Tekela Fisher Leave a Comment

Looking for a cozy spot to enjoy some homemade comfort food in Portland? Look no further than Sweedeedee, a charming cafe located in the North Portland neighborhood. This little gem has quickly become a favorite among locals and tourists alike, and for good reason.

First and foremost, the food at Sweedeedee is simply delicious. Everything on the menu is made from scratch using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. You know you’re getting the best of the best. Some standout dishes include the buttermilk biscuits (a must-try!), the fried chicken sandwich, and the seasonal pies (trust us, you won’t be able to resist).

We wanted to try something new this time around so we opted for their sandwiches. They were absolutely delicious and I was glad to have branched out!!

But it’s not just the food that makes Sweedeedee so special – it’s the atmosphere too. The cafe has a cozy, vintage-inspired vibe that’s both welcoming and eclectic. From the quirky knick-knacks to the mismatched chairs and tables, every detail feels thoughtfully curated. It’s the kind of place where you can easily spend a lazy afternoon catching up with friends or getting lost in a good book.

And let’s not forget about the service – the staff at Sweedeedee are some of the friendliest you’ll find in the city. They’re always happy to chat, offer recommendations, or just make sure you’re having a good time. It’s the kind of warm, welcoming service that keeps people coming back again and again.

So next time you’re in Portland and looking for a cozy spot to enjoy some delicious comfort food, head to Sweedeedee. Trust us, you won’t be disappointed.

Güero

We have loved this place for quite awhile and it is high time we share it with everyone! Hopefully you have already been to try this awesome restaurant, but if not, here is why we love it! Güero started as a food cart and after their massively popularity, moved into its brick and mortar location. They landed on Ne 28th which has become a more and more popular destination for food and snacks. They have been making fabulous tortas and margaritas since they opened in 2017.

Guero

All of the food is phenomenal, but they are of course best known for the tortas. My personal favorite is the Ahogada, a carnitas torta with jalapeño slaw covered in achiote tomato sauce. I always gravitate towards saucy things on the menu and this one really wowed. If you aren’t in the mood for a sandwich, you can also try one of their fabulous bowls. No matter what you order, I can guarantee you will enjoy it.

Güero also has a fabulous margarita, you can order one with Mezcal or tequila, and have them on the heated patio, or to go! They are simple yet perfectly tart and dangerously drinkable. If you want something lower in alcohol, they make a great horchata and aqua de jamaica.

Güero has done a great job of making things cozy for people wanting to dine in, the patio area is well covered and has several heaters going to keep you warm. We went out on a brisk 40* degree and were quite comfortable with our food. If you have tried this restaurant we would love to hear your thoughts! If not, be sure to go check it out soon! You can head over to their website to see the full menu and hours HERE.

Capitol

January 6, 2020 by Jessica Berger and Tekela Fisher Leave a Comment

Our Hot Spot this week is hip cocktail and karaoke bar, Capitol on NE Broadway and 14th. We have been wanting to check this place out for a bit, as it is right down the street from our new Northeast office. We finally got the chance to this last week, and we weren’t disappointed!

Capitol Bar, Portland Oregon

First off, we LOVED the decor. We were immediately smitten with the high dome-like ceiling, the beautifully lit, symmetrical liquor display, and the funky and brightly colored accent wall. There are delicious cocktails and a solid selection for happy hour. With all that Capitol has going for it, you will probably find us there for a post-workday cocktail quite often.

We started out with the True Blue. This cocktail was a gorgeous shade of robin’s egg, and included a mixture of tequila, lemon juice, and coconut. We liked that it was not too sweet and that the coconut gave it a creamy feel on the palate. Next, we tried the Something To Believe In, with Brokers, Aperol, Cocchi Americano, and Pisco. I feel like the resurgence of amaros in the cocktail scene has been fantastic, as it has lead to fun and interesting cocktails like this one.

Next, we moved on to one of the best bargains of Capitol’s happy hour- the scoots. For a measly $5, you get to choose a shot of liquor paired with a beer back. We loved the variety of choices they had and decided on a Balvenie and IPA and a Glenfiddich 12 with a Hazy IPA. You say ‘$5 for a scotch and tasty beer’? I say ‘Yes please’! However, if Whisky isn’t your thing (I don’t get it) there are also options of tequila and more.

Finally, let’s talk about the karaoke. We haven’t tested out the karaoke side of things yet, but it’s only a matter of time. Apparently, they have free/open karaoke in the evenings at 7pm. In addition, they have private rooms to rent out if belting out a tune to strangers isn’t your cup of tea. Personally, I like doing my best Paul Simon impression in the privacy of a room where only my friends can laugh at me.
